New Ambulance In Service!
Wednesday, April 8, 2020

The Ocean City Fire Department has taken delivery of a new ambulance.  Members of the Ocean City Fire Department were appointed to a committee who worked on the design and layout of the unit.  The new ambulance is a 2019 Horton Ford F550 four-wheel-drive chassis truck.  The ambulance was purchased from FESCO Emergency Vehicles in Elkridge, Maryland.

“This four-wheel-drive ambulance gives our firefighters and paramedics better mobility in poor weather conditions,” said Deputy Fire Chief Chris Shaffer.  He continued, “I am proud of the teamwork of our firefighter/paramedics who worked tirelessly to design an ambulance with a focus on safety, customization, and innovation.”

The ambulance is equipped with a passenger protection system, which is exclusive to the Horton Ambulances, called the Horton Occupant Protection System (HOPS).  The HOPS system has various airbag modules and a 4-point seat belts that are comfortable and easy-to-use with a one-click, single buckle design.

The Ocean City Fire Department has a fleet of 10 advanced life support ambulances.
